(1) McAuliffe was awarded a corrupt decision over Young Griffo; McAuliffe retired Dec. 1894.
(2) Lavigne was McAuliffe's chosen successor; and Burge had beaten Jem Carney, who drew with McAuliffe (1/14/87) in a fight stopped by the crowd, on account of Carney's foul tactics.
(3) Ritchie was badly beaten by Charley White over 10 rounds, but the title could only be lost on a stoppage.
(4) This was the final of an elimination tournament held by the NYSAC after Leonard's retirement. Goodrich had beaten top lightweight Sammy Mandell (DQ-6) in the quarterfinal on 5/18/25.
(5) After Duran left the division, the WBC and WBA had mediocre titlists until Arguello took the WBC title from Jim Watt and solidified his claim by beating Mancini.
(6) After De La Hoya moved up, the title was split. This was the first meeting of top contenders.
